The main points of the Hire Purchase (HP) Scheme for Used Vehicles are:

  • You may decide that the lower purchase price makes buying a used vehicle a better option for you particularly if you need a more highly equipped model.
  • HP is available on a two, three, four or five year agreement for used vehicles and to qualify, your HRMC of DLA or WPMS award must last the length of the agreement (starting from the delivery date).
  • Vehicles must be fully comprehensively insured by you (with a recognised insurer) to cover your intended usage for the duration of the agreement. You must pay and arrange for insurance yourself.

Buying a used vehicle on HP through the Motability Scheme differs in some important respects from buying a new vehicle on HP:

  • The vehicle must pass an AA inspection which the dealer will arrange on your behalf.
